Foothills - Northern CO
Nestled along the northern Front Range, Mosswood Academy's Foothills Campus serves homeschooling families throughout Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Timnath, Wellington, Laporte, and the surrounding Northern Colorado communities. From rolling grasslands to towering ponderosa forests and mountain canyons, students experience Colorado's diverse landscapes as an extension of the classroom.
As we prepare for our inaugural school year, we are working to finalize partnerships with local parks and natural areas that provide exceptional outdoor learning environments. Our goal is to utilize several of Northern Colorado's remarkable landscapes, including areas such as Lory State Park, Bobcat Ridge Natural Area, and Poudre Canyon, subject to permitting and availability.
Each week, students embark on guided outdoor expeditions that combine hiking, hands on science, nature journaling, creative expression, and meaningful social connection. Along the way, they investigate wildlife, identify native plants, study geology and weather, explore streams and forests, and develop a lasting appreciation for Colorado's natural heritage through immersive, place based learning.
Designed specifically for homeschooling students in grades 4 through 7, the Foothills Campus offers a thoughtfully developed outdoor enrichment program that complements your homeschool journey while fostering curiosity, confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships.
Who is Mosswood Academy designed for?
Mosswood Academy is designed specifically for homeschooling students in grades 4 through 7 who enjoy learning through outdoor exploration, hands on discovery, creative expression, and meaningful friendships.
What is the tuition?
Tuition is $320 per month for one day per week and is based on a nine month school year commitment from September through May.
Tuition includes our complete Mosswood Academy curriculum, guided weekly expeditions, science activities, creative projects, and all standard program supplies.
What days do classes meet?
Each campus offers two separate full day programs each week. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Students attend from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Each program follows its own unique curriculum, allowing families to enroll in either day or both without repeating content.
Who teaches the program?
Our students are led by carefully selected Expedition Leaders who have a passion for working with children, exploring the outdoors, and creating engaging educational experiences.
Every staff member completes background checks, CPR and First Aid certification, and Mosswood Academy's training program prior to leading students.
Is my child required to be an experienced hiker?
Not at all. Our expeditions are designed for a wide range of abilities and focus on curiosity, observation, and exploration rather than strenuous hiking. We carefully select trails and activities that are appropriate for students in grades 4 through 7.
Where are classes held?

Our goal is to utilize several of Northern Colorado's remarkable landscapes, including areas such as Lory State Park, Bobcat Ridge Natural Area, and Poudre Canyon, subject to permitting and availability.
Final meeting locations will be shared with enrolled families prior to the beginning of the school year, ensuring students experience a variety of forests, foothills, rivers, grasslands, and mountain ecosystems throughout the year.
What should students bring?
Students should come prepared for a full day outdoors with:
- Backpack
- Lunch and water bottle
- Weather appropriate clothing
- Closed toe hiking shoes
- Hat and sunscreen
- Personal medications (if applicable)
A detailed packing guide will be provided before the start of the school year.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Colorado weather is always an adventure.
We believe there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. Students should come prepared for changing conditions throughout the seasons.
In the event of severe weather or conditions that create an unsafe environment, families will be notified of schedule adjustments or alternate plans.
Is this a drop off program?
Yes.
Mosswood Academy is a fully supervised drop off enrichment program designed specifically for homeschooling families.
Will my child be outside all day?
Yes. Mosswood Academy is an outdoor enrichment program, and students spend the majority of the day outside in nature. We embrace Colorado's changing seasons and teach students how to safely and comfortably explore in a variety of weather conditions. Safety is always our top priority, and activities are adjusted when conditions require.
